May 2024 Meeting – Tile Quilt

This class will be taught by Carolyn Carlson.

The basic block or tile was created by Suze Spensley, Revelations Quilts. She did a YouTube video called Poutama Quilt. While cleaning her sewing room, she turned fabric pieces into 10 inch squares. From that stack, she pulled 20 medium to light fabrics and 20 dark fabrics. Using a white jelly roll with her pulled fabrics, she made 80 blocks and arranged them a variety of ways before deciding on her layout.

More layouts are possible from the simple block. The block is based on 2 ½ inch strips so a jelly roll may be used for any or all pieces. If you only wish to make one block bring a 2 ½ inch by 8 inch piece of background, medium to light fabric and dark fabric. If enough people make a block, we can show a variety of layouts with those blocks. If you wish to make the whole quilt you will need 1 1/2 yds of 2 different colors plus 1 1/4 yd of background. Or a multicolor 1/2 light and 1/2 dark. ( NOTE: Non directional prints work BEST. )

If you have a Strip tube ruler or a 6 1/2” square ruler bring that as well as basic sewing supplies, thread and machine. Small cutting mat and rotary cutter.
